Children

Our Future And Our Priority

The Westminster Catechism states, “The chief aim of man is to glorify God, and enjoy him forever.” We couldn’t agree more, and these two truths are foundational to our children’s ministry. We seek to develop the spiritual senses of our children (ages 6-11) so that they can enjoy the depth and quality of relationship with God that Jesus went to the cross to obtain for us. Out of this intimate relationship with the Lord, we seek to develop both godly character and spiritual giftings, which bring glory to God. We serve a generational God – “I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob” – and so we are a generational church. We believe that “…out of the mouths of infants and babes you have ordained praise…” Our children are our future, and that is why we place a priority on their generation.

The overall goal of the Children’s Ministry is to assist the home with developing character to build stronger, kingdom-minded families, a stronger youth group, and future church by providing Bible instruction and lessons in obedience, moving in the gifts of the Spirit (1 Cor. 12), boldness in prayer, and listening for and hearing the voice of God.

At Grace, our children are taught that there is no such thing as a “Junior Holy Spirit”, and that they are a vital part of God’s Kingdom. They are given opportunities to develop their spiritual gifts, to grow in the teachings of the Word, and step out into their community as powerful prayer warriors.

Leadership Team

Elle Steele

CHILDREN’S PASTOR

Elle is the Sunday School Director at Grace. She has been involved with teaching and helping with children’s ministries through not only GCF Brenham, but also prior churches since 2007.  From teaching, leading, or volunteering, Elle has always found joy in watching and participating in the spiritual growth of the children. She has embraced a very strong and bold calling to encourage and stir up little hearts for God.

Elle and her husband Josh live in Brenham with their two children William and Riley. They enjoy spending time with family and spend a lot of time on the soccer fields coaching their children’s teams. Elle works locally in auto insurance and also spends time serving with the Brenham Lady Lions Club.

Joseph Medrano

CHILDREN’S LEADER
Joseph started out in the sound booth recording Sunday morning messages and then decided to start helping out in Sunday school as well. He very quickly found out how much he loves serving the church in this way and felt a strong calling to join Children’s Ministry. Joseph lives in Brenham and works at Cross Country Mortgage as a loan office assistant. He enjoys spending time with the Lord, hanging out with his dog, and playing guitar.

Darrell Schmidt

CHILDREN’S LEADER

Darrell has been working in children’s ministry since 1993 at different churches, and serving the past seven years with our Kingdom Kids at Grace.  Darrell has always had a calling to help in kids’ ministry, whether driving a bus, preparing and serving food, cleaning up, monitoring during teaching and worship, or teaching in small groups and Sunday school.  Darrell enjoys watching these kids grow up and continue to serve God.

Darrell and his wife Michelle live in the Brenham area and they have 2 children, Matt and Sarah, and 8 grandchildren, including grandsons Trae, Mylo and Max Reeves who have been a part of the Kingdom Kids here at Grace.  Darrell owns a storage facility outside Brenham, a boat repair business, and is the president of DSE Technologies, a research and development company that is developing an electric power generator. In his free time, he loves to travel with Michelle. He is also a member of TASO football for the past 27 years, officiating high school football around the state of Texas on Friday nights.  He is thankful for the opportunity to serve God through working with our kids here at Grace.
