Our daughter-in-law Sarah Beasley has been diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer. She is getting a port inserted tomorrow May 29, and her appts with MD Anderson have been moved up to next week. Please pray for healing and strength to move through this process. Please cover in prayer her husband Matt, daughter Lucy 6, son Liam 4, and daughter Lola 2. My husband Mike and daughter Allyson also need prayers of support as they go through this. Mike lost his first wife who was Matt and Allyson's Mom to breast cancer in 2006. Their previous loss has brought many memories back to the surface. Thank you so much!

We met with the doctors today and received a preliminary diagnosis. They confirmed both inflammatory breast cancer and invasive ductal carcinoma. At this time, they are calling it Stage 3, but there are four areas of concern (thyroid, liver, lungs, and lower spine) that need further evaluation with a PET scan and thyroid ultrasound. The doctors are hopeful, as the spots are very small and may not be cancerous, but additional testing is needed to know for sure. The proposed treatment plan is five months of chemotherapy, followed by a left-side mastectomy, then radiation treatments for five weeks. Reconstruction and any decision regarding the right breast would be discussed later. One encouraging piece of news is that the cancer is HER2-positive, which provides additional treatment options and a more favorable outlook for this type of breast cancer. We are now waiting on the additional scans and next steps from the treatment team.

A PET scan has been approved by insurance due to diagnosis from all the other testing! It is scheduled for this Friday at 5am at the Med Center.

Mike and I just got home from our 12 hour shift with Grandkids in Fulshear. Sarah had testing all day today with her mom by her side: another biopsy, CT scan, ultrasound of thyroid, and a pet scan. We got a call from Matt on our way home that Sarah got results from PET scan and it isn't good. Cancer cells have been found in the thyroid, liver, and lower spine. The scope and plan for treatment will probably be updated early next week with drs. Stage number will probably be increased from 3 to 4. I will update as I know more. Healing prayers are still needed. Sarah has been given a sense of peace through all these testing days this week. Today was very tough on her and she is exhausted. Love all my prayer warriors!!

A bone biopsy was performed on Monday June 15, Chemo started Tuesday June 16. Biopsy results were shared over the weekend. Cancer was found in the bones throughout the body. Prayers for wisdom in knowing how to proceed.

PET scan update: Sarah just left MD Anderson, and her doctor continues to call her an "extreme responder" and is really excited for her! The plan is continue to do chemo since she is tolerating it pretty well, and complete the six rounds originally planned. She will see the surgery team in 2 weeks to get more info on what that process looks like later in the fall. While she would have loved to get surgery over with sooner, she is glad to do whatever is best, and it's good to know what to expect the next few months. Yay for being an extreme responder!!! An "extreme responder" is basically the best response Sarah could have: the spot on her spine is gone! They also saw no activity in the breast, lymph nodes, or skin!

Latest update from Sarah: All done at MDA for the day, here's the highlights- my ultrasound shows improvement from chemo, but still 4 abnormally sized lymph nodes. If I continue to respond well to chemo I will get to have surgery in October. It’s an overnight stay in the hospital, can’t lift the kids for 4-5 weeks.

Sarah has her surgery date. The surgery for the mastectomy and lymphnodes is scheduled for October 26. It will be an overnight stay at the hospital. Her final, 6th, chemo will be Sept 29. Sarah and Matt are still looking for a mother's helper/ housekeeper to come mid afternoons thru 8 to do dishes, laundry, dinner prep, clean up after dinner, and help Matt with baths and bedtime routines for Lucy 6, Liam 4, and Lola 2. They live in Fulshear. Thank you for continued prayers covering this sweet family of ours.

Answer to recent prayer request! Sarah and Matt found and hired their house helper last weekend!! It ended up being a neighbor that they had met before at their farmers market in their neighborhood. This wonderful person reached out to them asking if she could be a blessing to their family!! Thank you God!
